Row Over Manusmriti, Baburnama in Delhi University Syllabus

The inclusion of the ancient Sanskrit text Manusmriti in the history syllabus at Delhi University has again stirred up a debate. Last year, a proposal to include the text in the law syllabus faced fierce opposition, leading vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh to withdraw the proposal the night before it was due to be tabled in the university's Executive Council for approval.

The latest decision to include the text, along with Baburnama, in the undergraduate History honours syllabus has reignited similar concerns…
