Hostel Hassle: Student Forced to 'Check Out' for 'Instigating Students' Against University

A student of South Asian University, an institution operating under the eight-nation SAARC regional organisation, has been asked to vacate the girls' hostel for "instigating students against the university". Yashada Sawant of Mumbai was shocked to be told on Monday that she could no longer stay in the girls' hostel and given two days to vacate her room.

The university president told TOI that SAU would stand by the decision but would consider taking back the 25-year-old student if she committed to not doing "anything like this further".

Sawant, a second-year MA sociology student, told TOI that on Sunday, after one of the teachers from her department resigned, she discussed the inadequate faculty strength with some classmates. "On Sunday, we found out that our senior most faculty had resigned. We felt we were being denied the courses that the university promised us. I was worried about my courses and hence discussed it with my classmates and department friends on a WhatsApp group," said Sawant…
