NCERT textbooks: VPP calls for wider consultations

HP News Service | 20 December 2023

Following the decision of the Education Department to adopt the NCERT textbooks in schools from the next academic session, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) while appreciating the government’s intention to enhance the quality of school textbooks, said that the sudden shift to NCERT textbooks without broader stakeholder consultation, particularly involving teachers, is a “flawed approach”.

“The VPP acknowledges the government’s motive to improve the quality of education through the adoption of NCERT textbooks from classes 1 to 10. However, we emphasise the importance of wider consultations with stakeholders, especially teachers, before implementing such a significant transition. The process should involve those directly impacted to ensure a smooth and effective integration of the new curriculum,” VPP media cell member Dr. Rusievan Shangpliang said in a statement today.
