Student Activist to File Petition in HC Against Police Surveillance and Harassment

Challenging harassment and constant surveillance from Kerala Police, Sharmina, a 24-year-old student activist and a member of Purogamana Yuvajana Prasthanam—a left movement—is planning to file a writ petition to quash the show-cause order for ‘breaching the peace’ in the Kerala High Court.

According to the report accessed by  Maktoob, the ‘violent activities’ committed by the activist include participating in a public meeting commemorating Maoist leader Kavitha, attending a program in Nilambur town, Kerala, criticising the Ram Mandir verdict, and joining a gathering against an NIA raid on the houses of activists in Pandikkad, Malappuram. It accused Sharmina of committing offenses under Sections 143, 153, 149, 147, and 283 of the IPC and Sections 4 and 6 of the Kerala Police (KPWRAP) Act…
