Student organisations at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, have accused the administration of failing to conduct students’ union elections since last year.

Student collectives and faculty members have been raising concerns about the administration’s undemocratic actions, particularly since last year, when one of India’s leading social  sciences universities banned a leftist student organisation, Progressive Students’ Forum (PSF), from campus, accusing it of “misleading students” and “defaming the institute.” The administration also arbitrarily suspended a Dalit PhD scholar and imposed several restrictions.
