Students of Haridwar Medical College Strike Over Shift to Private Management

Haridwar: The MBBS students of Government Medical College Haridwar went on an indefinite strike on Wednesday to protest the state govt's decision to hand over the college to Sharda Educational Society, Noida, which runs Sharda University, to operate it under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. Two members of the teaching faculty have already resigned and a number of teachers transferred to the college from other govt colleges are being transferred back, students told TOI.

Students said that they will continue their strike until the govt commits to retaining the college's current status. They also demanded assurances that no changes would be made to the fee structure, that no hidden charges would be imposed, and that they would receive govt-issued degrees. If the govt proceeds with the change, students suggested the possibility of transferring them to other govt medical colleges….
