Supreme Court grants protection to JNU professor for his book on Anglo-Kuki war

The Supreme Court on Wednesday came to the rescue of a professor from Manipur for a First Information Report (FIR) registered against him for his book on The Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919 that was published in 2019.

The petitioners, Dr Jangkhomang Guite and Dr Thongkholal Haokip, belong to the Kuki-Zo community.

During a brief hearing, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud expressed surprise as to how an FIR can be filed for a book which was written in 2018 and filed in 2019
