Students protest drastic cut in research fellowships by Maharashtra government

As Maharashtra government aims to significantly reduce the number of fellowships granted to research scholars from marginalised communities in the state, students concerned have taken to protesting the move.

Students from other backward classes (OBC) have been engaging in a chain hunger strike at Azad Maidan for the past 29 days, demanding an increase in the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research Fellowship (MJPRF) provided by Mahajyoti Sansthan to OBC and nomadic community students pursuing their PhD.
