Pondicherry University Continues to Postpone Students Union Elections Amid Student Discontent

Pondicherry University has yet to announce plans for this year’s Students’ Union Elections, extending the hiatus that began during the COVID-19 pandemic despite continued demands from student collectives. The last elections were conducted in 2019, while other prominent Indian educational institutions successfully held their elections this academic year.
Pondicherry University employs a parliamentary system for its elections. The last election, held on September 4, 2019, saw the Students’ Federation of India (SFI)-led alliance secure a decisive victory, winning 10 out of 11 seats in the Students’ Council.
