Former BJP media cell convener appointed V-C of Mahatma Gandhi-founded Gujarat Vidyapith amid controversy

Ahmedabad: Former convenor of Gujarat BJP media cell and currently vice-chancellor of the Indian Institute of Teacher's Education (IITE) in Gandhinagar, Harshad Patel, was appointed vice-chancellor (V-C) of Gujarat Vidyapith on Wednesday. Gujarat Vidyapith is a deemed university founded over a hundred years ago by Mahatma Gandhi. Acharya Devvrat, the Governor of Gujarat, who has served as the chancellor of Vidyapith since 2022, appointed Patel as its 17th vice-chancellor. The post fell vacant after Rajendra Khimani was forced to step down following show cause notices from the UGC for lacking the required academic experience and facing allegations of financial irregularities….
