Aaj Tak Describes Progressive Students Forum at TISS Mumbai as Pakistan Students Federation, Retracts After Criticism

The Aaj Tak news website, while reporting on the arbitrary ban of the leftist students’ collective “Progressive Students Forum” (PSF) at Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, falsely expanded the abbreviation as “Pakistan Students Federation.”

Students of TISS and others called out the erroneous reporting, demanding that it be withdrawn immediately and that the media house issue an apology to the students.

“By labelling the student group as ‘Pakistani’, this media portal is leaving the members of Progressive Students’ Forum to the vulnerable position. This is a serious matter of safety and security of a huge number of students,” said Progressive Students’ Organization (PSO), TISS Hyderabad.

“This is highly condemnable and part of larger conspiracy by Godi media against the student movements in the country. This cannot be seen as a mere mistake, but shows the attempt of the right wing to divert the public outrage against the TISS administration who arbitrarily banned PSF on 19th August. Once again, the right wing is trying to label everyone who critises the BJP-led central government as anti-national,” the PSO said….
